Tis The Season… For Murder-Suicide

On Christmas Eve, 1929, Charlie Lawson killed his wife, six of his seven children and himself in Germanton, North Carolina.  Perhaps he wanted to give the gift of eternal life in the great beyond?

Shortly thereafter The Carolina Buddies had an unlikely hit single with their traditional murder ballad The Murder Of The Lawson Family.

Press from the event (and song) and morbid curiosity prompted tourists to visit the site,

an odd stimulus for the area’s depressed economy.
